The Christmas holiday season is magical. It just is. This year, we’d like to help you deck your halls in easy DIY style with some totally easy projects. Today we’re kicking off a blog series filled with 12 days of sweet projects you’ll dig. Stop back each day for a new idea – we promise you’ll dig them all.
Today’s featured projects include custom DIY gift wrap, a sweet holiday mirror and three adorable holiday tree jars. Grab some eggnog and Get Your Riot On! Ho Ho Ho.
Supplies you’ll need:
Paper Riot Winter Drive Wall Decals
Paper Riot Frosted Snowflakes Wall Decals
NOTE: You can also choose different decal designs for this project if you like. Shop all Paper Riot Holiday Decals available exclusively at Target here.
Additional supplies you’ll need to complete all projects shown (gift wrap, mirror & jars):
Kraft Wrapping Paper plus Ribbon (ours were from Target in the fun value bins)
Three Jars (ours were clean pickle and pear jars left over after Thanksgiving)
Round Mirror (we purchased ours at a thrift store for $6)
White Paint (we used white chalk paint to paint the mirror frame & jars)
Polycrylic Sealer (we recommend Minwax Water-Based Satin for sealing jars & mirror frame)
Paint Brush (for painting jars & mirror frame)
To complete gift wrap project:
For this project, simply wrap gifts using kraft wrapping paper, then apply decals. Finish with a fab ribbon/bow combo and you’re set with the sweetest gift presentation ever.
To complete mirror project:
For this project, simply dry-brush (dip tips of small paint brush into chalk paint, then “scrape” off nearly all the paint and lightly brush over bumpy surfaces leaving darker areas present, then repeat paint application until satisfied with finish) mirror frame. Allow to dry, then brush sealer over painted areas. Repeat with a second coat of sealer after first coat has completely dried. Apply christmas tree and snowflake decals to mirror as shown.
To complete jars project:
Rinse jars and completely remove all labels, then allow to dry. Using chalk paint, brush paint onto jars and allow to dry. Repeat, giving jars second coat. After completely dry, apply two coats of sealer allowing to dry completely between coats. We recommend allowing jars to dry overnight prior to applying decals. Apply Christmas tree decals to jars as shown.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the jars project, because you likely will be applying paint to jars immediately prior to applying decals, it is not recommended that you attempt to remove decals for any reason. Because the paint has will not have been given 21 days to cure, decal removal could cause damage to painted surface, and application should be considered permanent.
